***Queensway Shopping Centre***
My friends wanted to eat Katong Laksa, one uncle ushered us to 3 seats at the drink stall. (Food stalls are designed like a conveyor belt..Anyway, there is only one katong laksa there linked to a drink stall which sells hot dog and wu xiang)
The laksa really "shrinks" from the first time I ate quite some time back. My friends order drinks, sugar cane and for myself mineral water. We paid for the drinks and aunt asked "you want ice?" My friend replied yes on behalf of me, but she walked away without serving...
My friend asked from the boss (a guy who is wearing spec, in his mid thirties I think) replied, "ice cost twenty cents"
Boss asked aunt to serve the ice and mumbled softly to her to collect twenty cents from my friend...well, this is then when I really showed my "power" to the drink stall vendor... (Frankly speaking, if the ice needed money, why not he collected it with the drink and serve the ice? I think he thought that one of my friend is from overseas, so he is trying to make extra few cents...damn cheap lor....!!!!)
Aunt served the ice and asked for money and below are the interesting conversation I had with aunt and the boss....
Aunt: twenty cents..
Me: Aunt..I won't pay since it cost me twenty cents, why not you give me a chilled mineral water
Aunt: Run out of chilled one (WTF!!!! My problem ar!!)
Me: In that case, if you want to charge me for twenty cents for the ice, take back the drink and refund me..
Aunt: Aiya..I dun know lah..you talk to the boss...
Boss came into the picture..and he started to say ice need to pay twenty cents and gave me the same reason as aunt when I asked for a chilled mineral water...else I change drink lor...so that's the last straw
Me: Ok, then you take back the mineral water and refund me!! Why should I be paying for the ice when it is your problem that all the chilled mineral water are sold and the current one is not chilled?? When do business, you cannot be more flexible is it??
(By then, many shoppers had heard me as the way I phrased the sentence is definitely telling all what happened...so..I suppose all of you whom read here will know the outcome...hahaha
Anyway, I am sure even coffee shop serves ice for mineral water when you paid for it. I have another friend when I narrated the whole incident to him, he replied "Ken, you should ask the uncle if his ice are made from EVIAN!!!" (Wow!! I was dumbfounded....hahaha)
Well, I have another encounter which I will say this is a very lame one...

Well, I have another encounter which I will say this is a very lame one...
Friend of mine: I want one of this (indian food, which is flour and eat with green chilli)
China helper: 1 for 50 cents
Friend of mine: Ok, I want 1.
China helper: Do you want to take 2? 1 is 50 cents, 2 is 1 dollar...
Friend of mine: Ok...
I exchanged glance with another friend when we overheard it and we were like..."WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Anyway, my friend's explanation is that since the china helper is trying to sell more, might as well let him have the sale.....
***Aston Steak House (Joo Chiat Road)***
My friend recommended this place opposite Katong Mall called "Aston specialities" but when we arrived, it has quite a long queue and have to wait at least 30 mins to get a seat.
So we went to this place "Aston Steak house", which have to cross a road at the three o'clock direction when you are outside facing Aston specialities. After crossing the road, turn left and walk through the shop houses, you will come to a carpark which you will see the big sign...
When entering the cafe or restaurant if you prefer to call it that way, we were greeted by some friendly staff. So my friend asked "Hi, is this the same as the one at the main road, Aston specialities?"
Service crew replied "Oh...sort of, but we are of a more "PREMIUM" place which serves "PREMIUM"..After looking at the price and menu, we decided to give it a go...
We were directed to 4 seats, and the restaurant is clean, and the design are modern and look presentable. We were given a menu which is in clear folder, food list on photocopy paper, it really look damn cheapo....(they are opened for 1 month already), I already deducted points when holding the menu. There are not much choices...only chicken, fish, ribs, pork and lamb...one of each kind...
Placed order, mine first...Clam chowder soup...waitress replied "Sorry sir..this is sold out" (After a while, she came back and tell me that they are serving, so I ordered)
After 7 mins of ordering...we were served with ice water (a plus as some restaurant do not do that and they expect you to buy EVIAN water from them, which this restaurant actually place EVIAN on the table to promote the drink)
Several minutes after the ordering, the waitress came back and told my friend.."Sir..the lamb you ordered is not available yet" My friend replied "Ok..erm....what is actually available on the menu that you will be serving since food we ordered are always not available..."
Ok, so you can imagine what kind of service or choice we are left with...
A plus point for this cafe is that I requested to change the table to the sofa seat, and they did a fast clean up on the table and gave it to us. We were served with warm and soft bun, with garlic butter...quite nice...
My clam chowder soup came...I dipped in the soup spoon and tasted..."wow lau eh!! what kind of soup is this...no clam...soup not creamy....got lot of potato and carrots....cost me $5.00!!!"
My friend's pork dun know what cost $21.90...well, I can only give it 4 points out of 10 if 10 is excellent...
My roasted half chicken came with mushroom sauce...the chicken meat is cold...and I dipped in the miserable sauce given..$12.90..I told my friend, I will get a better taste of a whole roasted chicken in cold storage which will cost me around $5.90...hot and nice...
I requested my chicken to be heated up...after 5 mins...waiter came with my chicken and he started like this "Someone asked to heat up the chicken???" (WTF!!!!!!!!! what kind of language from a waiter in a PREMIUM cafe, serving food which are definitely "PREMIUM")
Well, we were discussing that this cafe will definitely close down if the standard is like this.....If the cheaper version is having a long queue, we should have guess that the crowd in this steakhouse must be the "spill over" from the "Aston specialities"....Bill total to $124.66....
If you are looking for a place to eat in Joo chiat Road, you might want to exclude this "PREMIUM" cafe...
